Rehabilitation of Older Adults

Physiotherapy for the rehabilitation of older adults helps improve physical capacity in the elderly and maintain their independence in performing daily activities for as long as possible. It also reduces the risks associated with aging, such as falls, which are among the most common problems. About one-third of people over the age of 65 experience a fall each year, which can lead to injuries such as fractures and a decline in overall health.

A physiotherapist can design a rehabilitation program for older adults that includes exercises to help individuals perform daily tasks, improve balance and motor coordination, and provide education on fall prevention and safe, active living.

Physiotherapy helps rehabilitate older adults in conditions such as:

  • Post-joint replacement surgery
  • Neurological conditions and post-stroke rehabilitation
  • Some cases of Parkinson’s disease
  • Some cases of multiple sclerosis
  • Comprehensive programs to improve overall health
